Interesting Packaging Design – James Dyson Awards

PACKTASCHE

Ready to hop on your bike to go to the grocery store to get your veggies for dinner? Check out this handy cardboard carrier – sort of a bike friendly paper bag but reusable. The whole page is here, but we provided a synopsis for you here!

The Inspiration

We, two enthusiastic cyclist and architecture students from Vienna, have now been riding for eight years through Vienna on two wheels. The bike would be the perfect mean of traveling through cities and in the countrysideif it was not for the issue of shopping and transportation of things. At the shop we often asked ourselves if our bag is still big enough to transport all the goods safely back home. Is the water bottle too heavy?

The Function

The PACKTASCHE attracts two large business sectors. It is useable as service packaging and a transportation device for retail businesses and also as a communication medium for NGOs, events and tourism.
In retail the PACKTASCHE is designed for supermarket chains and larger business associations. The key point here is that it allows cyclists spontaneous shopping and much bigger purchases. The PACKTASCHE can therefore increase sales volumes and raise customer loyalty.
Furthermore, this new bag offers great marketing and image building opportunities to business assosciations. At the moment the PACKTASCHE is yet used for the most part as an advertising medium. A common cyclist can cover up to 10 km each trip with a relatively slow speed of 12 km per hour on average, which makes the bike the perfect mobile markting device for urban spaces. As a result of these attributes and its innovative character, the Packtasche is the ideal product for urban and regional marketing.

Besides these commercial benefits, the PACKTASCHE is still designed and made for it’s users, the common cyclists. For them, we would like to make everyday’s riding even more enjoyable by simplifying their shopping and transportational tasks. This, we believe, can increase the usage of the bycicle and broaden its acceptance within society. We consider the PACKTASCHE as our first small contribution to make the change towards sustainable mobility a reality for future generations.

One thought we had is that if you live in Seattle, or other traditionally damp areas, you may want to wax those panniers.

Thoughts from the packaging experts at Corporate Image:

Plus

  • Points for recyclability and branding opportunities.
  • Low cost and reusable
  • Innovative and fun idea.

Minus

  • Would prefer longer lasting option
  • Cardboard is not 100% recycled material
  • How much could it hold – worry the bottom would open up on rough roads

Conclusion:  4 stars out of 5

Very cool idea and in a pinch to have this option at the grocery store would be amazing.  As a branding opportunity it is great exposure and we can see these being used at bike rallies and grocery stores.

Sumptuous Cloth Binders

Cloth Binder

Mix and match cloth with full color printing

Corporate Image has one of the largest selections of binding and packaging fabric in North America. We stock 10 varieties of cloth cover materials. This offers over 200 color and texture choices. We also stock bonded leather and acrylic coated paper, as well as organic cotton, and a cotton/linen blend. Our newest cover material is the Verona series, a natural rayon/viscose cloth which comes from Holland in 37 brilliant colors. These fabrics are widely used in Europe for books, binders, packaging and photo books. Cloth may be decorated with debossing or hot foil stamping. Many of Corporate Image‘s cover materials are 100% cotton with aqueous acrylic coatings. All of our fabrics can be found on our parent  website LBS.

Why would you choose a cloth 3-ring binder?

By far a cloth binder is the strongest 3-ring binder you will find.  Book cloth is made to last, even with constant use, you can find cloth covered books that look great 30-50 years after they were made.  With excellent color choices and high durability, a cloth binder can offer you the best value for your brand. If you make a product that lasts (such as Toyota), this binder will reinforce the notion of your brand as a well made, high quality product.

Types of Cloth for your 3-ring binder

You have a range of cloth options from the Verona Naturals, natural cotton-linen cloths to fabrics with a subtle sparkle. No matter what your need, we have you covered – including both leather and faux leathers.

Medical Companies Turn to Corporate Image for Presentation Packaging Needs

Medical Binder

Marketing kits, presentation binders and custom boxes are popular in the industry

Corporate Image partners with many companies in the medical industry to produce packaging for device manufacturers, hospitals, pharmaceuticals and more. Our binders, folders, marketing kits and boxes are used to store and present information for patients and health care workers, so it is readily available and brands a product or company.

At Corporate Image, we work the Medical and Health care industry in creating better patient information packets, meeting or conference  kits and and staff information folders. With the large quantity of work we have done, we thought we would share with you the ideas and trends that we have seen Medical  information packets.

Patient Information Binders and Pocket Folders

As you know, keeping the patient well informed from entering your health system to treatment options can lower anxiety and help your doctors to counsel patients on their best path forward to healthier, happier lives.

This information has to be clear, well organized and easily search-able.  A small binder is usually enough to present the basics of even complicated treatments with room for follow up and and ongoing regimens.  Tab dividers can make for quick and focused sections as well as adding new information as needed.

The presentation binders have pockets that wrap inside the binder, so if you print only one side of the paper, you still get more artwork/branding on the inside.

 Some Examples:

Sample kits and boxes for the construction industry

If you are a manufacturer that works with the building industry, you know you have a lot of competition.  You need a way to showcase your samples that stands out.

At Corporate Image, we have worked with furniture, lighting, tile and stone, carpet, glass and many many more industries to find a way to present samples and hardware.  Our in-house designers can work out details to insure your samples are safe, beautifully presented and give you a custom template to design your art work.

Call us to get more information or samples on our sample presentation kits and boxes.

Eco-Friendly Binder Wins Best Binder in the World!

One of our client’s binder projects was awarded “World’s Best Binder by Eska Graphic Board of the Netherlands. The judges were impressed with the innovative design, the different decorating methods used and overall quality. Corporate Image was the first to pioneer this unique binder style, which has come to be known as a flush-cut binder.

To produce it, we start by applying a printed cover and liner to an oversized binders board. Next, we trimmed the board so the cover and liner are flush with the board edge. We use natural paper that can be offset printed using soy inks. The result is an interesting blend of board, paper and ink that reveals the core of the binders board.

In addition to the construction, what made this environmental binder stand out among the other entries was that this project called for debossing, foil-stamping and printing, which showcased the designer’s artwork. It also had a very eco-friendly look because he chose a natural colored, recycled paper that printed beautifully and didn’t need lamination.

This particular binder style is used by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife because of its eco-friendly qualities: it’s made from 100% post-consumer wasted binders board, printed on recycled paper with soy inks and is 100% recyclable.

Artesian Cancer Center

Flush-Cut Round Back Binder

1 ½ inch D Ring

80# Oatmeal Endleaf Paper

Best Binder in North America

Corporate Image is pleased to be recognized two years in a row for outstanding craftsmanship and product design in a worldwide competition. It's our good fortune to be able to work with talented creatives from across the country to make their designs a reality.

The 2011 and 2012 award-winning binder style was originally developed by the Corporate Image design team in 2008 to be 100 percent recyclable. Free from toxic plastics, the binder is made from 100 percent post-consumer waste binder board and printed with soy-based inks. The ring mechanism is nickel-plated metal, which can easily be removed for recycling.

This binder design has been used by numerous clients since 2008 and has been well received.  In fact, the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) held a nationwide competition to find the greenest, most appropriate binder for their use. The contest outlined 25 criteria that needed to be met and this binder met them all! Today Corporate Image produces this binder for the department of U.S. Fish and Wildlife.

How is it made? First, we apply a printed cover and liner to an oversized binders board. Then we trim the board so the cover and liner are flush with the board edge. We use natural paper with 10, 30 or 100% recycled content that can be offset printed using soy inks. The result is an interesting blend of board, paper and ink that reveals the core of the binder’s board. Laminate it or not — it’s a great look and 100% recyclable.

The Best Binder in the World

Eska, an international company headquartered in the Netherlands has awarded Corporate Image first place for producing the “best binder in the world”. Eska, a manufacturer of earth-friendly, recycled graphic board will recognize Corporate Image with one of their annual Frog Awards. This 2 foot high sculpture made of bronze features a frog perched atop a lilly pad and is anchored by a beautiful quartz, stone base. The frog comes from their company logo and the fact that frogs are found in abundant supply in the canals along which their mills are located. You can learn more about Eska and this distinguished award by clicking here: www.eskagraphicboard.com.

The “best binder in the world” was designed to be used as a “journal and planner” by patients at a cancer center in the states. In designing the binder, Jason Maddox of Maddox Creative, selected an uncoated paper for the cover. Eska was particularly impressed wtih the craftsmanship and beauty of the foil stamping that was the predominant graphic feature and the creativity of the overall art.
